Description

The Chimney Balloon® is an 2 layer inflatable fireplace blocker that prevents drafts from a chimney caused by a broken, warped, or missing flue damper. It stops heat loss by acting as a chimney plug draft stopper that air seals and insulates the fireplace. This saves you money and heat, and improves comfort.

The Chimney Balloon usually installs above the damper, but also works in chimneys that have no damper. You inflate it into the lowest spot in your flue that has at least two parallel walls, and is not obstructed with other hardware.

The 10″x10″ Chimney Balloon has a tapered edge that is designed to work on a circle chimney 10″ or less or a square chimney that is 11″x11″ or less. The black handle-valve on the bottom of the Chimney Balloon is 7” long. Every Chimney Balloon also comes with a two-foot-long removable clear inflation tube that connects to the handle-valve to make inflation easy.

I bought a 9×9 chimney balloon twice for my fireplace insert, one in 2024 and the second in 2025. Both of them worked pretty well to block the atrocious smokey smell during the hot and humid summers until they get punctured by the chimney lining. The vinyl of the balloon is way too thin to resist any kind of pointy residue inside the flue. I had to patch my last balloon as it was deflating very fast with 3 punctures. Please, update future models with either a thicker vinyl or a double or triple layer of thick vinyl to resist scratches and punctures. And also if the tubing could be a little longer, that would help with fireplace inserts where the flue starts pretty far from the inside with a tiny opening (below 4 inches). I had to MacGyver my balloon by adding a valve taken from an extension kit and some vinyl tubing in order to push the balloon all the way where it should be.

Thank you for your feedback Thierry. Actually the 2-ply 10×10 Chimney Balloon Max is a redesign of the older 9×9 1-ply Chimney Balloon that you are writing about. We have also included a 35″ clear inflation hose that is longer than what was in the older 9×9 Chimney Balloon.
